Cummins Onan After Surviving Ike, I Am Interested In Buying A Generator. What Features Should I Look For?

After surviving Ike, I am interested in buying a generator. What features should I look for? - cummins onan

I think I'm looking at for 5000 watts, which should cover my fridge and ceiling fan and light, perhaps the TV screen. I also believe that 120/220v, and uses the unleaded gasoline. What is power and observed? Are they important? What is the difference between saying, Cummins Onan 6500 in Costco (currently $ 250 Off) and a generator for $ 399 for the same output for sale at The Home Depot, for example?

Both systems Cummins Generac well.
Check the type of engine and noise. The valves of the engine head are more efficient, last longer and are quieter. All horses have produced about 500 watts power. A 5000-watt generator typically uses a 10 hp engine.
Fuel type is important. Shop Diesel and petrol. Propane has an indefinite life, but more difficult to fill.
Brush Carbon Brush dynamos need a replacement a few years, but generally provide better regulation of output voltage as compared to brushless types.
You need to install a body for the transfer of simple and safe connection and operation. Check the use of the generator a neutral floating or glued to the panel wiring.
Subjects mentioned in my site generator. Read the FAQ.

Be sure to check "Watts of continuous power are evaluated. Alternators and do in his first report, this is what happens when running continuously published. You must read the newspaper, what does the work, the performance continuously.

Just as advertised a 5,000-watt generator continuously produce over 4000 watts. You can not have that many devices with only 4000 watts.

The second thing we want is fuel economy to determine what the gas engine speed increases or decreases the demand for electricity in the generator or decreases. That saves a lot of wear and fuel when the engine is not running at max. RPM if they are not needed.

As for brands I do not think it makes a big difference. I had an Onan, and occasionally had to be repaired. Currently I have a Generac and not change the fact that oil and gas they use for 4 years.

We were all pigs before 2000, in preparation for Y2K.

We bought a 6500 Coleman delivered at 80% duty KVA continuous output of 5200 watts. This service would be a fridge, small freezer, energy efficient lighting, maybe a television. Enough for more than 72 hours not.

We had run only once, when a significant reduction from a power pole. (We live in the country, we have a Franklin stove, pot hooks, grids, etc., so that we can to make coffee, etc.) We also have 75 gallons of water each pure enough to handle a product of two weeks to Baths and Spring is still in operation.

We have our Northern Tool Builder. Another good point is the port of embarkation.

Better be prepared than sorry tomorrow.

At the beginning of this new century, we can meet all of our families and friends for 90 days and never leave the property.
